If you’ve picked up a newspaper lately or tuned into the local nightly news, you’ve probably heard some chatter about our planned relocation to the Bronx. Understandably, these changes have sparked some questions about what this means for the city and its residents. So here’s the story:

After spending ten exciting and fruitful years in Queens, FreshDirect has outgrown its current headquarters and is working through a public-private partnership with New York to build a state-of-the-art facility in the Bronx. There, we’ll be able to operate more efficiently, maintain our relationships with in-state vendors, local farmers, and purveyors.

Our hope is to continue our long track record of growth and job creation – right here in our hometown. Our partnership with New York will also help create up to 1,000 new jobs over the next ten years, an exciting boost for the city’s workforce.

The new location in the Harlem River Yards is perfect for our new, 500,000-square-foot facility. It is located in a heavily industrial area next to an active rail line and in between Federal Express and Waste Management facilities. The site also offers easy access to Bruckner Expressway, allowing our trucks to bypass the nearby residential neighborhoods – unless they are making scheduled deliveries to customers in the Bronx.

In addition to helping grow the local Bronx economy, relocating our headquarters will provide additional capacity that will allow us to conveniently provide a greater selection of high-quality, fresh food to New Yorkers.
